Our HealthTech meetup saw two companies showcased - Thought Wired and O’Docs Eye Care. The event was sponsored by Blender Design, GPC Electronics and GridAKL!

Speaker #1: James Pau from Thought Wired

James Pau is Co-founder and Technical Lead at Thought Wired, a company helping people with severe disabilities control objects with their mind. Software built by Thought Wired uses third-party brain sensing devices to help users control external devices such as computers, smart home systems or even powered wheelchairs.

James has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering (Biomechatronics Engineering), and Thought Wired was a finalist in the 2016 Innovation Awards.

Speaker #2: Hanna Eastvold-Edwins from O'Docs Eye Care

Hanna Eastvold-Edwins is Chief Engineer at O'Docs Eye Care, a company who have created a 3D printed smartphone attachment to help optometrists perform eye exams. They hope to save millions of people from going blind, by improving accessibility to diagnostic hardware that can be used with mobile phones. Their work has been recognized by the likes of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Sir Richard Branson.

Hanna is an experienced Product Development Engineer, and has worked with Boeing, Yamaha, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare to name a few. O'Docs won Most Innovative Hi-Tech Mobile Award category at the 2017 Hi-Tech Awards.
